I was already convinced this was the most fascinating person I ever met. My attraction to her and the reason I enrolled in her 12 week course was to learn about how she regained the ability to walk after being a quadriplegic.
At the time I was referred to by my doctor as a "walking quad" who could not walk. Of course I wanted to learn all about how Ann Fisher healed from her spine injuries. My own spine injury was not in the same league with hers, but I was determined to do anything to be able to walk again.
She was considered by all measures to be a "walking miracle". After being pulled out of a Honda Civic that was reduced to the size of a suitcase she spent several weeks in a coma. She described in vivid detail what that was like, as well as her healing process after her spine was crushed.
She was paralyzed from the neck down and referred to herself at that time as a "talking head". She could breath and she could talk. Of course all of her doctors told her to accept her fate as she would never walk again. When I met her it was obvious they all were wrong.
During our sixth Prana Vayu Breathwork class, she told us the darkest most horrifying story of something else that happened to her, as if being a "quad" wasn't enough.
I heard a collective gasp in the room in which I was surrounded by doctors, nurses, therapists, and others who all had one thing in common - we all knew this woman had a profoundly compelling story to tell and many lessons to teach. But we were not prepared for this.
She recounted in minute painful detail the chapter of her life in which she was abducted, thrown into a van, taken to a remote cabin in the woods, and gang raped by twelve men for three days. She then described what it was like after she finally escaped and later had to appear in court for twelve separate rape trials. The trauma from having to relive that dreadful experience during twelve trials is beyond my imagination. But that isn't the most fascinating part of this story.
The work this woman did to heal from this intense trauma was the most profound, intriguing, life-changing process I ever heard. She knew that if she did not purge the anger and rage that permeated every aspect of her being - it would destroy her.
After the convictions of the twelve men who gang raped her for three days, Ann Fisher forgave them and formed long term relationships with each of them. Together they all worked to repent and to use this horrific time in their lives to facilitate a level of healing that was life altering for each of them.
Ann Fisher revealed this deeply personal and painful chapter of her life to teach us that it is possible to heal from almost anything, whether physical or emotional, with the power of Prana Vayu (The Breath of Vitality).
The most fascinating person I ever met inspired me to regain the ability to walk again.
